SGSU Board of Directors Meet in Memphis and approve new Resident Scholarship Fund
The SGSU launches Scholars Program to provide private support to our Residents
Special Announcement, March 2025
The SGSU is pleased to announce that it has established and funded its very own Resident Scholarship Fund. As a result of a Board decision at the 2025 meeting in Memphis, the SGSU will be supporting 4 Residents in total with $2,000 each to be used for travel to the 2026 Kimbrough Meeting.
2025 President, Dr. Bradley Schwartz stated: "At the most recent Board Meeting there was tremendous and healthy discussion regarding the future of this meeting and the ability to have residents participate because of broad Medical Education funding cuts across all services (Army, Navy, Air Force and VA). All those on the Board and in attendance at the Business Meeting were very supportive of developing a long-term plan to help fund resident involvement in the form of scholarships supported by generous donors and grateful alumni. The first iteration of this resulted in a Board decision to sponsor 4 residents at $2000 each to attend the 2026 Kimbrough." click here for more
After establishing the fund, contributors were quick to step up with donations currently totaling $40,000 (as of 3-27-25). While still in its infancy, the goal is to build a fund large enough to support many more residents each year with travel awards.
